What is Attrition Warfare?

Attrition warfare is a military strategy consisting of belligerent attempts to win a war by wearing down the enemy to the point of collapse through continuous losses in personnel and material. Creates exhaustion and fatigues the enemy from creating a timely response.

April 19 from The Screwtapes letters, "Signs of Attrition"

"The routine of adversity, the gradual decay of youthful loves and youthful hopes, the quiet despair of overcoming the chronic temptations (War) with which we have again and again defeated them, the drabness which we create our lives and the inarticuI️ate resentment with which we teach them to respond to it- all this provides admirable opportunities of wearing out the soul (Nations) by attrition...Prosperity knits a man to the world."

When a person feels that they are "finding their place in it", it is really finding actions that best represent their experience. A Leader who commands a country's motivation towards a common goal and the association of that leader's interpreted governmental experience. A Leader who finds it within themselves acts justified through their thinking, in fact, "finding their place in it"

How is this contextual in today's modern time?

Russia in 1812 won the war with attrition warfare against Napoleon. When attritional methods have worn down the enemy sufficiently to make other methods feasible, attritional methods are often complemented or even abandoned by other strategies. World War I military commanders on both sides ineffectively relied on attrition warfare, which resulted in casualties without a strategic result.

Todays's conflict in Ukraine is another example. The feared reaction of President Vladimir Putin, caused a Democratic state like Ukraine to join NATO. Such Political opportunities were opened once the war began. The fear of Ukraine joining NATO created an opportunity in which it was possible. Furthering Finland's willingness to join NATO greatly increased after witnessing how Ukraine was attacked.

What are some ways of preventing political movements

March 23 from Mere Christianity, "Forget Yourself"

"How is it that people who are quite obviously eaten up with pride can say they believe in God and appear to themselves very religious? I️ am afraid it means they are worshipping an imaginary God. They theoretically admit themselves to be nothing in the presence of this phantom God, but really all the time imagining how He approves of them and thinks them far better than ordinary people: They pay worth of humility to Him and get out of it a pound worth's of pride towards their fellow-men...

Luckily, We have a test. Whenever we find that our religious life makes us feel that we may be acted on, not by God, but by the devil. The real test of being in the presence of God is, that either you forget about yourself altogether or see yourself as a small object. It is better to forget about yourself altogether." - Mere Christianity

When it comes to the state of war, we must forget about the motives that created the belief behind the reaction. When we ourselves feel justified we can create actions that are in the belief of justification. Breaking down the motions in our modern day helps us understand how to move in the future. Leaders in today's react on the emotional level of the environment they were raised. New leaders will replace the current Philosophies and deal with the evident historical effect on their mental psyche.
